General Appearance:

The Australian Cattle Dog is a strong, compact, and symmetrically built working dog. It should convey an impression of agility, strength, and endurance. The breed is known for its hard muscular condition, with any tendency towards grossness or weediness considered a serious fault.

Head and Skull:

The skull is broad and slightly curved between the ears, flattening to a slight but definite stop. The muzzle is medium length, deep, and powerful, with a black nose. The eyes are oval-shaped, medium-sized, and dark brown, expressing alertness and intelligence. A warning or suspicious glint is characteristic when approached by strangers.

Neck and Body:

The neck is muscular and moderate in length. The body is slightly longer than tall, with a level topline and a strong back. The chest is deep and muscular, and the loins are broad and strong. The tail is moderately low set and reaches approximately to the hock.

Forequarters and Hindquarters:

The forequarters are strong and muscular, with straight and parallel forelegs. The hindquarters are broad and powerful, with well-developed thighs and strong hocks.
